Dennis grew up in West Union, Iowa and graduated from Upper Iowa University. In 1981, Dennis and his late wife, Mary moved from Fayette to Oelwein where he was employed at the Oelwein Post Office as a window clerk until his retirement in 2009. Dennis enjoys collecting military history memorabilia. He is a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, where he also serves as church custodian. Dennis is also a member of the Oelwein Lions Club and Fayette County Historical Society. He has been employed at the funeral home since December of 2009.
