She was the 7th child born into an Irish farm family of 10 children near the parish of St. Patrick in the small country town of Monti. She attended elementary school through 8th grade in Monti, after which she attended her freshman year at St. Patrick School in Ryan, IA. For the next three years, she transferred to East Buchanan Schools in Winthrop, IA, and graduated.
She went on to attend Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids for one year before marrying Greg Fawcett of Winthrop, IA. Together, they made their home in Winthrop, where they welcomed four children: Lori, Patricia, Janet, and Johnathan. Greg was the third generation to own and operate the Fawcett Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Winthrop, as well as the Lamont Funeral Home. She worked alongside Greg at the funeral home, coordinating visitations, organizing funerals, and managing the buying and selling of furniture at the downtown furniture store.
She completed a two-year Associate Degree at Kirkwood Community College, specializing in Public Relations.
After 53 years of marriage, Greg passed away on July 17, 2024, due to heart complications.
In addition to her work in the family businesses, she dedicated her time to serving her community as a religion teacher, CRE director, Guild President, choir member, lector, communion distributor, TAG instructor, 4-H leader, Buchanan County Health Trust member, and para substitute.
Throughout her life, she found joy in reading, playing cards (Euchre, 500, and Bridge), sewing, baking, pontooning on the rivers, wintering in the Arizona sunshine, horseback riding, and most of all, spending precious time with her eleven grandchildren.
