William Bill Blount

–

Winthrop, Iowa

William "Bill" Edward Blount was born February 23, 1918, near Central City, Iowa, the son of Albert Royal and Vera Henderson Blount. He attended the local schools graduating from Central City High School with the class of 1936.
William was united in marriage to Mary Lopota on June 6, 1944, at the United Church in Walker. To this union were born four children: Kathleen, Richard, Duane, and Claudia. They farmed for a few years near Central City until moving to their farm near Walker in 1948. As well as farming and milking cows, Bill worked for 34 years as a welder at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1978, they moved to a farm home west of Winthrop which their family had completely remodeled. Due to Bill's ill health, they moved to their present home in Independence in 2004.
Bill was always busy building, repairing or inventing things to make his life easier. Baseball was a great love of his life, having pitched for his Central City high school team during the state baseball tournament. He will be remembered for his prize-winning joke telling ability with impeccable timing that entertained so many. He loved to drive his Case 35 and 36 tractors in tractor cades. Since 1965, many summer weeks were enjoyed at his family's cabin on Pelican Lake, near Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada, fishing and working on the cabin and the lakefront property. They wintered for several years in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bill Blount entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at his home in Independence, at the age of 90.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alberta Napier; one brother, Donald Blount; and one step grandson, Neil Beecher.
