Vinent F. Koch Obituary (1922 - 2008)

Vincent was born March 16, 1922 to John and Marie (Recker) Koch in Raville, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Bonavontive Catholic Church in Raville, Nebraska. During World War II, Vincent served in the U.S. Air Force 2008 Ordinance Battalion, 8th Air Force from 1942-1945. He received medals for the European, African, and Asiactic-Pacific service as well as good conduct medals. After returning home, Vincent married Lois Kvamme formally of Petersburg, Nebraska on September 14, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lamont, Iowa. Vincent spent most of his life farming in the Lamont area. Since retiring, Vincent enjoyed his scroll woodworking, gardening and his flowers. Vincent was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lamont until it closed. Vincent died at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa on August 6, 2008, after a lengthy illness at the age of 86. Vincent is preceded in death by: his wife, Lois in 1990; grandson, Tony Koch in 1998; son-in-law, Gary Clow; his parents, John and Marie Koch; sisters, Dacia Ward and Dorothy Koch; and brother, James Koch. Survivors include: five daughters, Lois (Verne) Doehrmann of Williamsburg, IA, Carol (Randy) Popham of Lamont, IA, Susie (Kirk) Schuchmann of Strawberry Point, IA, Jaynie (Rick) Karas of Dawson, NE, Mary (Brian) Grimm of Strawberry Point, IA; two sons, Douglas (Gale) of Lamont, IA and David of Lamont, IA; 28 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jerome (Verna Mae) Koch of Lamont, IA, Florian (Kathy) Koch of Oelwein, IA and LaVerne (Mary) Koch of Aurora, IA; and sister, Marilyn (Jim) Welter of Masonville, IA. Services for Vincent F. Koch were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point with Rev. Paul Peters officiating. Music was provided by Donna Moeller and Theresa Breitbach. Casketbearers were: Kevin Doehrmann, Keoni Koch, Kurt Johnson, Dustin Koch, Mike Schuchmann, Kyle Clow, Rodney McDowell, Eric Koch, Chad Schuchmann, Ryan McDowell, Randy McDowell, Christopher Clow, and Benjamin Simons. Visitation was at the former St. Mary Catholic Church in Lamont from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008. Burial was at St. Albert Catholic Cemetery, where military rites were accorded by the Loren Foster American Legion Post 346 of Lamont.
