Velma L. Garrigus, 78, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2016 at Grandview Healthcare Center, Oelwein. Funeral Service: 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Floral Hills Funeral Home, rural Oelwein, Iowa with Rev. Bob Solon officiating. Visitation: 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established. Online Obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Velma Lucille Huggins was born on June 21, 1937 in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of William Arthur & Emily (Olmstead) Huggins. Velma lived in Wadena during her childhood years. Velma was united in marriage to Larry Marlow Garrigus on July 14, 1956 at the Community Church in Oelwein, Iowa. They lived in Cedar Rapids where Velma was a homemaker and cared for her family. Velma and Larry moved back to Oelwein following Larry's retirement. Velma enjoyed embroidery, collecting salt and pepper shakers, scrapbooking newspaper articles and spending time with her family and friends. Velma is survived by her 7 Children: Lorraine (Kenneth) Connelly of Marion, Larry Garrigus of Cedar Rapids, Barbara Garrigus (John Shriver) of Gulf Breeze, Florida, David (Ruth) Garrigus of Oelwein, Sandra Garrigus of Waterloo, Edward (Buffy) Garrigus of Independence & Christina (Michael) Jones of Independence; Several Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren; Sister: Sharon (Larry) Kula of Cedar Rapids; Brother: Paul (Mae) Huggins of Cedar Rapids; Sister-In-Law: Regina Huggins of Oelwein and Many Nieces & Nephews. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Larry on March 17, 2010, several brothers and sisters and a dear friend and roommate: Pauline Smith.
