Valerie "Joyce" Rummel

Valerie Joyce Rummel, 90, of Maynard, died Friday evening, August 7, 2026, at Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein.

Per Joyce’s request, there will be no services at this time. She wished that burial would wait until her husband’s passing, at which time they will be buried together.

Valerie Joyce Youngton was born August 28, 1935, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of William “Bill” and Nellie (Olander) Youngton. She attended Oelwein Community Schools. On August 1, 1952, Joyce was united in marriage to Raymond Ralph Rummel at the Lutheran church in Oelwein, Iowa. She was devoted to her family, staying home to raise their children for many years. Joyce enjoyed spending time with friends, visiting with anyone who would talk with her, joking around, and being surrounded by her family. She never forgot a name and was truly a people person who enjoyed making others feel welcome and valued. Joyce was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years Raymond Rummel of Maynard; children: Bill (Cheryl) Rummel of Maynard, Randy (Deb) Rummel of Oelwein, Dan Rummel of Maynard, and Michelle Rummel of Maynard; 4 grandchildren: Wade (Jamie) Rummel of Fairbank, Lindsay (Chris) Dalrymple of Mahomet, Illinois, Ziana Glew of Oelwein, and Zach (Christina) Glew of Oelwein; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Billy Youngton and grandson: Clay Rummel.
