Sadie Hannah Day Obituary (1931

Sadie Day, 85, of rural Arlington, Iowa went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, August 8, 2017 at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. Sadie Hannah Ball was born on September 3, 1931 to Guy and Charlotte (Wellington) Ball in New London, Iowa, where she grew up and graduated in 1949. Because of her love of music, she sang in numerous school operettas and played the cornet. Because of her love of children, she attained a teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught kindergarten in Wadena. While in college, she visited the Arlington Methodist Church with her roommate and met Leonard Day. Sadie and Leonard were married on June 24, 1951, and settled on the family farm where they were blessed with seven children - David, Spring, Mariann, Peggy, Diane, Julie and Brian. She lived out her devotion to her husband and her Lord by caring for her children, home, and gardens, and in working alongside Leonard on the farm. She worked with 4-H and Cub Scouts and served in the Arlington Methodist Church, continuing to teach children in Sunday school and volunteering in the women's groups and activities. Sadie had a selfless way of reaching out to and serving others which brought her great joy and satisfaction. "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her, 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all' ... Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31: 28-31. Sadie is survived by her husband of 66 years: Leonard Day of Arlington; 6 Children: Spring (Doug) Davidson of Windsor Heights, Mariann Day of Troy, Alabama, Peggy (Jon) Poppe of Urbandale, Diane (Jeff) Blaker of Fayette, Julie (Dave) Kester of Urbandale & Brian (Pam) Day of Loveland, Colorado; Daughter-In-Law: Mary Ellen Day of Postville; 12 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren. Sadie was preceded in death by her son David, parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 14, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Arlington with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Visitation: 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday and for one hour before the service on Monday at the United Methodist Church in Arlington. Interment: Graveside service for family, Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established for the United Methodist Church in Arlington.
