Ruth Ellen Asmus was welcomed into the world on December 18, 1932, in Dorchester, Nebraska, by her parents John and Ida (Moritz) Asmus. Ruth was the youngest of 8 siblings and grew up on the family farm in Iowa at the peak of the Great Depression. She spent time living with her oldest sister Marie’s family in York, Nebraska where she graduated from High School.
Ruth moved back to Iowa where she met Robert George Tellin, known to friends and family as Bob. Bob was told of a cute girl down at the bank and he did not hesitate to ask her on a date. Ruth and Bob fell in love and were joined in marriage on August 28, 1954, in Tripoli, Iowa. They settled down in Oelwein where they raised 3 children whom they loved dearly. Locals will remember her kind presence and gentle smile as a waitress at Luigi restaurant in town.
Ruth was a warm and caring woman who would go out of her way to help friends and neighbors. She delighted in becoming a grandmother and spent much of her later years traveling to Texas and back to Iowa to care for all 4 of them. Ruth was a woman of faith attending Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. Her granddaughter recalls her reading from her green Living Word Bible every night before bed.
She received her baptismal reward on July 8, 2024, at the age of 91 years old. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children, Sally Eversoll of Rockton, Illinois, Tim (Mary Jo) Tellin of Grapevine, Texas and Steve Tellin of Oelwein, Iowa; Grandchildren Megan (Ben) Vaughan, Molly (Ethan) Hunter, Trevor (Victoria LeCounte) Tellin and Tatum Tellin; Great-Grandchildren Tate, Jasper and Corin Vaughan.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband.
