Roy H. Truog, 88, of Oelwein, Iowa died Saturday evening, February 1, 2020 at Unity Point-Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 7, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein with Rev. Josh Schunk officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Roy Harry Truog was born March 15, 1931 in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of John LeRoy & Clara (Vanselow) Truog. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. Roy received his education at the Oelwein schools. He served in the U.S. Army in Austria during the Korean War. Roy was united in marriage to Dione Delores Miehe on October 21, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard, Iowa. They were blessed with two daughters, Lora and Connie. Roy worked as a welder at Donaldson Company in Oelwein for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Roy enjoyed fishing, making fishing lures, hunting, taxidermy, gardening, woodworking, crossword puzzles and Scrabble. Roy is survived by his Wife of 64 years: Dione Truog of Oelwein; 2 Daughters: Lora Gonzales (Mike Haun) of Oelwein and Connie (Russ) McNamara of Oelwein; 4 Grandchildren: William McNamara of Ames and Alissa, Devin and Logan Gonzales of Oelwein; Brother: Don (Joan) Truog of Morrison, Iowa; Sister: Eleanor Truog of Oelwein; Several Nieces & Nephews and his beloved cat: "Peanuts." He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Andrew (Dorothy) Truog and Richard (Betty) Truog and a son-in-law: Jerry Gonzales.
