Roy L. "Pete" Moritz, 61, of Westgate, Iowa, died on Wednesday morning, May 19, 2010 at Allen Memorial Hospital at Waterloo. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein with Rev. Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday and for one hour before the service on Saturday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Military Services: 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post #9. A Memorial Fund been established. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Roy Lee Moritz was born on January 12, 1949 at Independence, Iowa the son of Roy Henry & Patricia L. (Rohrick) Moritz. He received his education at the Waterloo and Oelwein Schools. Pete married Sharon Kay Williams and two sons were born to this union. They later divorced. Pete served in the United State Marine Corps as a Sergeant (E-5) for 4 years during the Vietnam War. He worked for Waters Construction in Oelwein and then for Winmor Construction in Waterloo for 27 years. Pete was a heavy equipment operator who retired in 1996 due to health issues. Pete was united in marriage to Pamela Kay Slick on January 23, 2010 at Charles City, Iowa. Pete was a member of ABATE and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, his dogs, home repair projects, UFO sightings, riding his Harley and spending time with his family. Pete is survived by his Wife: Pam Moritz of Westgate; 4 Children: Roy (Tammy) Moritz of Tama, Brett Moritz of Dubuque, Shannon (Chad) Lantz of Charles City & Chelsey Moritz Englehart of Davenport; 19 Grandchildren; 1 Great Granddaughter; Mother: Patricia Hedrick of Oelwein; 6 Siblings: Sheila (Jerry) Keeley of Livingston, Texas, Cindy (Gregg) Zingg of Iowa Falls, Douglas (Sheila) Moritz of Osage, Patrick (Kathy McCray) Moritz of Oelwein, Jon Moritz of Hazleton & Michelle (Terry) Knebel of Cedar Rapids and many Nieces & Nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, step-father: Neal Hedrick and a brother: Mark.
