Rollyn L. "Butch" Schroeder, 72, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, December 17, 2019 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa. Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 23, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church in Oelwein with Rev. Michael Holmen officiating. Visitation: 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Military Memorial Service: 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home by the Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 Honor Guard of Oelwein. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein. He graduated from West Central High School in Maynard. Rollyn proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On August 16, 1970, he was united in marriage to Debra Thyer at Maynard. He was employed for 20 years at Donaldson Co and drove transport van for the Oelwein Community Schools. Rollyn was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Oelwein, where he served many terms on the church board. He was also a member of the Ross Reid American Legion Post # 9 of Oelwein. He enjoyed golf, Iowa Hawkeye Sports and the Green Bay Packers. Rollyn is survived by his wife of 49 years: Debra Schroeder of Oelwein; son: Tim Schroeder (Jessica Logan) of Schaller; daughter: Gena (Jesse) Miller of Shell Rock; granddaughter: Gracyn Miller of Shell Rock; siblings: Duane (Janet) Schroeder of Strawberry Point, Burnadene (Nyle) Vargason of Hazleton, Veniece (Harold) Vandersee of Oelwein and Mardene (Robert) Bahe of Oelwein; sister-in-law: Carol Thyer of Independence; step brother-in-law: Rick (Judy) Guenther of Cedar Rapids; step sisters-in-law: Beth Guenther and Janette Guenther both of Fayette; step mother-in-law: Frances Thyer of Fayette; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law: Gala Padgett Schroeder; nephew: Alan Bahe; parents-in-law: Frank Thyer and Richard and Donna Guenther; and brother-in-law: Phillip Thyer.
