Richard E. "Dick" Shepherd, Jr., 82, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Monday morning, November 28, 2022, at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Graveside Service: 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 2, 2022, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein with Rev. Josh Schunk officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein with military honors by the Marine Corp Honor Guard.

Richard Earl Shepherd, Jr. was born September 4, 1938, the son of Richard Earl and Elsie (Medaus) Shepherd. He graduated from Oelwein High School. Dick proudly served in the United States Marines from 1959 to 1963. On September 17, 1960, he was united in marriage to Janice Mae Schulmeister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Dick was employed at Donaldson Company until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed trap shooting, pheasant hunting, fishing, dancing, wood working and home projects. Dick was devoted to providing, protecting and loving his family.

Richard is survived by his son: Richard A. Shepherd of Ames; daughter-in-law: Michelle Shepherd of Waverly; and 2 grandchildren: Kayla Shepherd (Justin Ciesielski) of Denver and Nicholas Shepherd of Denver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Janice on October 3, 2020; and son: Peter Shepherd on October 24, 2021.
