Reid, 74, of Hazleton, Iowa died suddenly on Friday evening, April 9, 2010 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein, Iowa Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Oelwein, Iowa; Officiating: Rev. Tim Schoepf; Visitation: from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the church; Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Hazleton, Iowa with graveside military rites by Ross Reid American Legion Post # 9 Honor Guard of Oelwein, Iowa Memorials may be given in his name for the Hazleton Veteran's Park at Hazleton, Iowa Online Obituary at: www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Rayburn is survived by his Wife of 52 years--Shirley Reid of Hazleton, Iowa 4 Daughters--Ronda Reid of Cedar Falls, Iowa Rachelle Reid of Independence, Iowa Robin (Terry) Schwemmler of Hayward, Minnesota Risa Reid of Encino, California He was preceded in death by his Parents--Infant Son (Ricky Reid)--Sister (Sally)--and his Mother and Father-in-law (Ruth and Ray Fleming). Rayburn Floyd Reid was born on September 18, 1935 in rural Oelwein, Iowa the son of Floyd and Dola (Ferguson) Reid. He attended country school and later graduated from Hazleton High School at Hazleton, Iowa. Rayburn was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army from January 15, 1954 to January 15, 1957. He married Shirley Rae Fleming on March 1, 1958 at Preston, Minnesota. Rayburn worked at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, Iowa and later owned a cycle shop, Auto Auction, and operated a car lot for 48 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oelwein, commander of the Hazleton American Legion, vice-president of the Hazleton Commercial Club, president of the Hazleton Senior Housing Corporation, was a longtime Mason and president of the El Kahir Shrine Wee Winnies parade group, was involved in the Buchanan County Tourism, and was involved with the Hazleton Veteran's Park. Rayburn has been a resident of Hazleton for the last 51 years.
