Orlin A. Knickerbocker, 94, of Arlington, Iowa, died on Saturday evening, October 7, 2017 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Margaret Yackel-Juleen officiating. Visitation: 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment: Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established for St. John Lutheran Church & Arlington EMS. Online Obituary at: www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Orlin Alva Knickerbocker was born on August 9, 1923 on the family farm in rural Edgewood, Iowa the son of Vern Alton & Regina Emma (Gerke) Knickerbocker. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and later confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on July 6, 1941 in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Orlin received his education from the Edgewood country school. He farmed with his parents and later moved to Cedar Rapids where he worked at Wilson Packing Co. Orlin was united in marriage to Evelyn Mae Harkin on September 13, 1944 at Oelwein, Iowa. They farmed together, working side by side, east of Arlington from 1945 to 1991. They moved to Arlington in 1991 and Orlin moved to Maple Crest Manor in Fayette in January of 2017. Orlin was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He and Evelyn belonged to the Katty Korners Klub and Helping Sisters Club. Together they enjoyed bowling and attending the athletic events of their children and grandchildren for many years. Orlin is survived by his: 4 Children: Sandy (Jay) Thede of Mason City, Terry (Mary) Knickerbocker of Strawberry Point, Randy (Joyce) Knickerbocker of Arlington & Tom (Kelli) Knickerbocker of Arlington; 7 Grandchildren: Lori Kuhlmann of Sumner, Mike Knickerbocker (Penny Wooff) of Fayette, Andrea (Corey) Rose of Hawkeye, Rachel (Mike) Hageman of Manchester, Ashley (Kevin) Garetson of Ankeny, Alex Knickerbocker of Iowa City & Tess Knickerbocker of Iowa City; 7 Great Grandchildren: Ashley (Brian) Eckenrod, Sadi Kuhlmann, Dawson Kuhlmann, Ben Hagemen, Cora Hageman, Drew Garetson & Ivy Garetson; 2 Great Great Grandchildren: Kraeton Eckenrod & Talyn Eckenrod; Sister: Elgene Kamper of Arlington; Brother-In-Law: Howard Harkin of Arlington; Numerous Nieces & Nephews and his cat: Snowball. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife: Evelyn on October 26, 2010, Brother & Sister-In-Law: Elton & Betty Knickerbocker, 3 Brothers-In-Law & 2 Sisters-In-Law: Raymond Kamper, Charles (Marge) Harkin & Dean (Gerda) Harkin and Sister-In-Law: Virginia Harkin.
