Norbert L. Kortenkamp, 71, of rural Aurora, Iowa, died at his home on Monday morning, March 2, 2009 after a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Visitation: 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Parish Scripture Service: 6:30 P.M on Friday at the funeral home. Military Service: 7:30 P.M. on Friday by the Aurora American Legion Post #435 at the funeral home. Interment: St. Albert Cemetery, Lamont, Iowa with military graveside rites. A Memorial Fund has been established. Online obituary: www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Norbert Leo Kortenkamp was born on October 27, 1937 at Aurora, Iowa, the son of Raymond Adam & Alice Catherine (Cashen) Kortenkamp. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1955 and attended Loras College at Dubuque. Norb served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Norbert was united in marriage to Marlene Marie German on September 4, 1961 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Masonville, Iowa. He was a lifetime Aurora area resident and farmer. Norb was also a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for many years, retiring in October of 1994. Norb was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, the Aurora American Legion Post #435 and the Iowa Rural Letter Carrier Association. He enjoyed fishing and all activities related to aviation. Norb always made time to spend with his family. His theory in life was that there is always room for one more guest in his home or at the dinner table. Norb is survived by his Wife: Marlene of Aurora; 6 Children: Laura (Joe) Devlin of Lamont, Susan (Greg) Schultz of Mesa, Arizona, Julia (Lee) Gamm of Arlington, Michael (Rhonda) Kortenkamp of Center Point, Kathy "Honey Dew" (Mike) Skillings of Independence & Don "Duke" (Kara) Kortenkamp of Winthrop; 19 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren and a Brother: James Nicholas Gordon of Phoenix, Arizona. Norb was preceded in death by his parents.
