Mildred Clara Burger was born December 1, 1917, at Cascade, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Clara Greten Kremer. Mildred graduated from St. Mary's High School in Cascade with the class of 1936.
On September 9, 1940, Mildred was united in marriage to Alvin Charles Burger, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade. To this union were born five children: Nicholas, Allen, Richard, Nila, and Robert. The family farmed near Cascade and Worthington, Iowa, until purchasing their farm near Masonville, Iowa, in 1951. Alvin died on April 25, 2003, and Mildred continued to live on the farm for the rest of her life.
Working in her flower and vegetable gardens, Mildred liked canning tomatoes, pickles, beets, and apples from her large garden and orchard; preserving jam and jelly; baking angel food cakes and banana, coconut creme, and rhubarb pies; and from necessity, milking dairy cows. For fun times, she enjoyed dancing and playing 500 and Euchre cards. She was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville and of the Rosary Society. She will be remembered for her kind and tolerant nature, her clear mind, and her love of her family and farm.
At the age of 93, Mildred entered into her eternal rest on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at her beloved farm home, northwest of Masonville.
