MIchael Edward Harvey Obituary (1953

Michael (Mike) Edward Harvey was born in Manchester, Iowa on February 28, 1953, the son of Howard and Vera (Dunn) Harvey. He grew up in Strawberry Point and graduated from Starmont Schools in 1971. After graduation, he attended the auto collision course at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Mike married Sherri Keppler. To this union were born three boys: Shawn, Joshua, and Heath. They later divorced. Mike married Paula Bachtell on February 1, 2002 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. Mike was a body man for thirty five years. He worked at Andrews Auto, Kelley's Auto Body, Village Auto, Community Motors, and Witham Auto until his health declined. He retired in 2007. Mike was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and former mayor of Lamont. He enjoyed camping, lawn moving, racing, Iowa and Chicago Bears football and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. Mike with his great sense of humor will be missed dearly. He lost his courageous battle with ALS, in his home Friday, March 11, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. A special thank you to the staff at Heart of Iowa Hospice for their wonderful care and thoughtfulness. Mike was preceded in death by his father Howard in 1960 and mother Vera Cook in 2006. Survivors include his wife Paula of Lamont; rented step-children: Nick (Betsy) McTaggart of Arlington; Sarah (Jerry) Boyd of Evansdale; and Tina (Jeremy) Hummel of Waterloo; three sons: Shawn (Sarah) Keller of Dallas, TX; Joshua (Jaime) Keller of Marion; and Heath Keller currently in Northern Afghanistan; step grandchildren: Kalyn and Keegan McTaggart, Jerry and Jessica Boyd; grandchildren: Grant, Sadie, Devin, Megan, and Riley; three grandkitties (Gandolf, Gracie, and Ginxy); three sisters: Linda Trettin of Strawberry Point; Cathy (Paul) White of Earlville; and Michelle (Bryan) Horstman of Peosta; aunt Mariann (Gary) Sargent; uncles Jerry (Margaret) Harvey and Dale (Dixie) Harvey and nieces and nehews. Friends may call from 4 PM until 8 PM Tuesday, March 15 at the Fawcett Funeral Home (845 Peal st) in Lamont and after 9:30 AM Wednesday at the UMC Methodist Church in Lamont. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in the Grace United Methodist Church at Lamont with Pastor John Brockschink officiating.
