Maralee Auten Hanson Obituary (1913 - 2009)

Maralee Auten Hanson was born July 27, 1913 at Winthrop, Iowa the daughter of Alva Marcellus and Gertrude Trott Auten. She attended theWinthrop schools until moving to Waterloo where she graduated from East Waterloo High School. She continued her education at Gates Business College for one year. Maralee was united in marriage to Delbert Thomas Hanson on April 29, 1934 at Waterloo, Iowa. To this union were born two sons: Thomas and James. They lived at Waterloo until 1940 when they move to a farm near Winthrop. Maralee worked at MHI in Independence for 23 years where she was the Secretery to the Superintendent. Delbert entered into his eternal rest on October 24, 1991. Maralee continued to live on the farm near Winthrop until moving to Marshaltown. Maralee was a member of the Church of Christ United in Winthrop. Maralee entered into her eternal rest on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Grandview Heights Care Center in Marshalltown following a short illness. She was 95 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delbert and one sister Lucille Lorenz. Survivors include her two sons: Thomas (Alberta) Hanson of Winthrop and James (Marcia) Hanson of Marshalltown; four grandchildren: Jane (Mark) Leonard of Independence, Carol (Chip) Bailey of Pittsboro, NC; Christine (Donovan) Huffaker of Newton; and Deb (Deric) Van Dyke of Cedar Falls; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop with Pastor Dean Schlitter officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will take place at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
