Laureen F. "Laurie" Slater, 80, of Oelwein, Iowa, died suddenly on Saturday morning, December 10, 2022, at MercyOne, Oelwein. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with Rev. Ray Atwood officiating. Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and for one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established. She received her education at the Oelwein Community Schools. Laurie was married to Keith Arnold Slater on March 6, 1961, at Mattoon, Wisconsin. They later divorced. Laurie provided daycare in her home for 43 years. She enjoyed her dogs, bingo, watching and feeding birds and spending time with her children and grandkids. Laurie is survived by her 6 children: Keith A. Slater of Oelwein, Mardy L. (Jim) Benson of Asbury, Crystal A. (Travis) Harris of Oelwein, Ann L. (Curt) Werning of Cedar Falls, Corie L. Mendez of Marion & Steven E. (Jen) Aiello of Readlyn; 16 Grandchildren; 33 Great Grandchildren; 7 Great Great Grandchildren; 4 Siblings: Mardell Schilleman of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Rudy (Barb) Edwards of Birchwood, Wisconsin, Michael (Joyce) Edwards of Des Moines & Randy (Sue) Edwards of Indianola and several Nieces & Nephews. Laurie was preceded in death by her father: George Edwards; mother: Opal Teberg; former husband: Keith on December 14, 2020; a daughter at birth: Laurie Lee and two significant others: Joseph Mendez and Jigs Aiello.
