L.T. "Buzz" Rechkemmer, 77, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Sunday morning, October 16, 2011 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein after a courageous battle with cancer. Service of Christian Burial: 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Scripture Service: 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Lorayne Thomas Rechkemmer was born on December 28, 1933 at Iowa City, Iowa the adopted son of Claire Lorayne & Elsie (Weber) Rechkemmer. Buzz graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Oelwein, in 1951. Buzz was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Meier at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank on April 18, 1953. Buzz worked as a welder and later as a foreman at Iowa Electric Light & Power for 40 years, retiring in December of 1991. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Buzz enjoyed all sports and especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed spending time at the casinos. Buzz loved his family and was so proud of every one of them. Buzz is survived by his Wife: Shirley Rechkemmer of Oelwein; 2 Sons: Robert "Buzzy" (Linda) Rechkemmer of Oelwein & John "Jack" (Connie) Rechkemmer of Fairbank; 2 Daughters: Debra Steffen of Oelwein & Lynn Marie Rechkemmer of Oelwein; 9 Grandchildren; Brad (Elly) Steffen, Brian (Roxanne) Steffen, Jennifer (Greg) Hunter, Chad (Sarah) Rechkemmer, Susan (Josh) Hamdorf Alyson (Chris) Forsyth, Amanda "Mandy" (Josh) Schares, Anthony "Tony" (Gina) Rechkemmer & Alex Rechkemmer; 14 Great Grandchildren; Step Great Grandchild; Sister: Joyce Weber of Pleasanton, California and a Brother: William (Mary) Rechkemmer of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter: Janet Rechkemmer.
