Joseph Charles Sherrer was born on March 19, 1954, to Charles Emmett and Dorothy (Dalen) Sherrer. He was a 1972 graduate of Sacred Heart School in Oelwein. In 1973, he began working for Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Oelwein. Joseph then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. In 2000, he began working for Minnesota Commercial Railway and retired in 2014.
In May of 1980, he married Gail Peterson. This union was blessed with one son Matthew. Even though Joseph and Gail went their separate ways, Gail and her husband Steven Behnke were constant support, and wonderful friends to Joseph.
Joseph enjoyed the simple things in life. A long motorcycle ride, listening to some Christian or Country music, or tinkering around at his little ranch at home and riding his horse. Matthew’s favorite memories were the long rides to Wyoming to go to Cheyenne Frontier Days. They went to rodeos, camped, enjoyed live music, but most importantly time spent together being cowboys. Joseph’s favorite days were spent with Matthew and Briana and his grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by his son: Matthew (Briana) Sherrer of McKinney, Texas; 2 grandchildren: Harrison and Harlow; siblings: Kathy (Larry) Fettkether, John (Erlinda) Sherrer, Sue Peine and Ann (Mike) Martin; dear friend: Susie Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
