John R. "Dick" Zubrod, 67, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Monday afternoon, November 3, 2014 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Memorial Service: 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 10, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Military Memorial Service: 7:30 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Following the memorial service at the church there will be a time of lunch and fellowship in the church hall. Inurnment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa at 1:00 P.M. on Monday. A Memorial Fund has been established. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com John Richard "Dick" Zubrod was born on August 29, 1947 in Oelwein, Iowa the son of Russell William & Pauline Agnes (Reid) Zubrod. Dick graduated from Oelwein Community High School in the Class of 1966. After high school, Dick served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War as a door gunner on a chinook helicopter. Dick was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Crandall on April 5, 1967 in Maynard, Iowa. Dick worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a welder for 22 years. He was a member of the Railroad Maintenance Union. Dick enjoyed making stain glass art, rock hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping and all things outdoors. Dick enjoyed and was thankful for all the campfire chats with family and friends. Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years: Barb Zubrod of Oelwein; Daughter: Tina Zubrod (fiance: Jim Blue) of Oelwein; 2 Brothers: Charles (Eleanor) Zubrod of Clinton & Barney Zubrod of Waterloo; 2 Sisters: Geri Greve of Ossian & Ruth Potwin of Waterloo and many Nieces & Nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, son: Wade on September 25, 1989, brother: Ed and 3 sisters: Jackie Zubrod, Jeannie Harland & Vir Hannan.
