Icil Marguerite Murphy Jensen Obituary (1930 - 2017)

Icil Marguerite Murphy Jensen, 87, of Winthrop, entered into her eternal rest on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Icil Marguerite Murphy was born April 26, 1930 at Rowley, Iowa, the daughter of James Edward and Margaret Kidd Murphy. She attended Brandon Schools through the seventh grade, went to Country School during Junior High, and graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1947. She worked at the Independence Produce, Hinson Manufacturing in Waterloo and the Independence Conservative paper. Icil was united in marriage to John Jensen on April 29, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. To this union were born three daughters: Pamela, Linda, and Joan. The family farmed northwest of Winthrop for 24 years. In January, 1973 they moved into Winthrop and became Janitors of East Buchanan Schools. They retired in 1992 after 19 years. Icil was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2001, her daughter Linda; three sisters: Verna Blatchford, Donna Bonnardin, and Ruth Bird; two brothers James Raymond Murphy and Bernard Bud Murphy. Survivors include her daughters: Pam Jensen of Independence and Joan Cook of Canyon, TX; five grandchildren: Michael Jensen of Waverly, Daniel Cook of Canyon, TX, Brian Cook of Dallas TX, Joan Dale of Independence, and Shannon Cook of Canyon, TX; five great grandchildren: Roger Dale, Tanner Erickson Dale, Aria Jensen, Allexandria Jensen, and Naomi Jensen, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. A celebration of life gathering will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 5 PM until 7 PM at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop.
