Genevieve Blanche Ahrens Obituary (1916 - 2009)

Genevieve Blanche Ahrens was born January 24, 1916, at Rockford, Iowa, the daughter of John Edward and Blanche Hilda Reams Remling. She attended school in Rockford until her family moved to the Dundee area, where she graduated with the Lamont High School class of 1933. Genevieve was united in marriage to Alfred Ernest Ahrens on May 6, 1933, at Freeport, Illinois, and moved to their farm near Dundee. To this union were born two daughters: Bette and Nancy. Genevieve grew large flower beds and vegetable gardens, canning the excess produce. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading, and walking. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee, serving on various ladies' circles. Alfred entered into his eternal rest on August 20, 1983. In 1998, she moved to Mallard Point in Cedar Falls, IA. Genevieve entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls following a short illness. She had just celebrated her 93rd birthday four days earlier. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; and six brothers: Edward, Earl, Everette, Burrelle, Robert, and Allen. Survivors include her two daughters: Bette (William) Raus of Winthrop and Nancy (Robert) Russell of Rochester, MN; two grandchildren: Suzann Marie (Lenny) Bakken of Rochester and Damon Scott Russell of Rochester; three great grandchildren: Nevaeh, Caitlin, and Logan; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 31, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee with Rev. Roger McKinstry officiating and Jody Meyen providing the music. Interment will be in Campton/Oak Hill Cemetery near Lamont. Casketbearers will be: Scott Russell, Lenny Bakken, Allen Remling, Dennis Ahrens, Brad Kimmerle, and John Preussner. Visitation will be from Noon until 1 PM Saturday, at the church, prior to the services. A memorial fund has been established in her name for St. John Lutheran Church of Dundee, Iowa.
