Dewey Kastli, 73, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Sunday evening, May 15, 2011 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics at Iowa City. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church, Oelwein with Rev. Michael Holmen officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established for a Dewey Kastli Oelwein High School Scholarship. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Duwayne Edmund Kastli was born on August 20, 1937 at rural Oelwein, Iowa, the son of John & Mary Ann (Richards) Kastli. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1955. Dewey was united in marriage to Bonnie Janice Reed on July 5, 1958 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. Dewey served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 6 years. Dewey worked at Strang Tire and as a small engine repairman at the Oelwein Coast to Coast Store. He worked for Speedy Manufacturing and continued there as manager when the business became United Farm Tool. Dewey continued work at Oelwein Tool & Die & Hawkeye Tool & Die in Jesup. He was currently a school bus driver for the Oelwein Community School District where he had worked for the past 6 years. Dewey was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Oelwein Husky Booster Club, Oelwein Fine Arts Guild and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Dewey was extremely talented and always brought a can do attitude to every project he set out to fix or repair. He was very persistent, always finding a way to get the job at hand done. Dewey's helping way showed his love and concern for his family and friends and his kind heart to total strangers as he offered to help repair what was broken. Dewey enjoyed tinkering, motorcycles, hunting, fishing and spending time at the pond. Dewey was a self made man. He had a great love for his family and always wanted the best for them. He was a motivator who took great interest in children and was always rooting for the underdog. He will be greatly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, family member, friend and as a fan of the Oelwein Huskies. Dewey is survived by his Wife of 52 years: Bonnie Kastli of Oelwein; 2 Sons: Todd (Nancy) Kastli of Oelwein & Tim (Lisa) Kastli of Oelwein; Daughter: Tracie (Byran) Kimm of Keystone; 6 Grandchildren: Matt & Sarah Kastli, Abby Kastli and Caleb, Hannah & Becca Kimm; 3 Step-Grandchildren: Keisha (Allen) Bennett, Jeremy Gage and Jared Gage; 4 Step-Grandchildren: Brandon & Jacob Bennett, Gracie Gage & Kayden Gage; 2 Brothers: Roy (Tami) Kastli of Waterloo & Ronnie (Leona) Kastli of Waterloo and many other beloved family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Bob "Tiny" Kastli, 2 sisters: Rita in infancy & Rose Kappmeyer.
