Duane L Fernald Obituary (1948

Duane Lee Fernald was born October 22, 1948 at Waterloo, Iowa the son of Orvil and Lillian Rathbun Fernald. He attended school in Winthrop and graduated from East Buchanan High School with the class of 1967. After school Duane worked for a time at a hide factory and then moved to Illinois where he worked for his brother Dwite as a sales associate in an auto shop. He came back to Iowa where he was involved in a car accident which left him in a wheelchair. He worked at Eldora for a time as a dispatcher for the Sherriff's department. Then he moved back to Buchanan County and lived at Independence and then Hazleton. In 2008 he moved back to Independence and then moved into ABCM West. Duane was an avid sports fan following his favorite Teams: the Cubs, the Bears and the Hawkeyes. Duane entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at ACBM West. He was 66 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marjorie Woods. Survivors include his two brothers: Bob (Barb) Fernald of Jesup and Dwite Fernald of Stillman Valley, IL; his sister: Rose (Roger) Purdy of Tyler, TX; and many nieces and nephew. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 14, 2015 at ABCM West in Independence. Graveside services will be on 9:00 A.M. Friday at Fremont Township Cemetery north of Winthrop.
