Dorothy A. Furleigh, 68, of Oelwein, Iowa died Friday morning, August 21, 2015 at the ABCM Rehabilitation Center West Campus in Independence, Iowa. Funeral Service: 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with Rev. Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Visitation: 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Online obituary www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Dorothy Anna Schaefer was born January 2, 1947 in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of Harry and Gertrude (Sorenson) Schaefer. She graduated from Oelwein High School. In 1965, she was united in marriage to Darrell Heidt, Sr. and they later divorced. On October 10, 1997, she was united in marriage to Richard Furleigh in West Union, Iowa. Dorothy was employed for many years as a cook at Oelwein Health Care. She was a lifetime member of the Oelwein American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to cook and was well known for her homemade pies. Dorothy is survived by her husband: Richard Furleigh of Oelwein; 5 children: Darrell (Rebecca) Heidt, Jr. of Arlington, Kim Eckhardt of Arlington, David (Kristy) Heidt of Oelwein, Lynda (Norm Taylor) Heidt of Cedar Rapids and Daniel (Fiance: Jessica Ohl) Heidt of Oelwein; 20 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Christina Heidt; great grandson: Jack Reiniche; 3 sisters: Nancy Walker, Linda Beaman and Dixie Sorenson; 2 brothers: James Sorenson and George Sorenson.
