Diane Marie Bartels

Diane M. Bartels, 72, of Westgate, Iowa died at her home on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Inurnment: Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate, Iowa, at a later date.

Diane Marie Bergstrom was born on July 12, 1944 in Tripoli, Iowa, the daughter of Leland Wayne & Margaret (Brase) Bergstrom. She grew up in Waterloo and graduated from West High School. Diane was united in marriage to James Arthur Bartels on July 19, 1963 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Diane was a homemaker. She also managed the Bank Bar & Grill in Westgate for five years, worked as a cook at Schemmel's Family Foods in Sumner, worked as a cook at Prairie View Residential Care Center at rural Fayette and retired in 2006 from the Iowa Department of Corrections in West Union as a dietary cook. Diane was a member of Union Methodist Church in rural Sumner. She enjoyed reading, the outdoors, fishing at the Mississippi and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Son: Jim (Carla) Bartels of Maynard;
2 Daughters: Deb (Bryon) Cowell of Westgate &
Lisa (Gene) Rubendall of Westgate;
6 Grandchildren: Justin Bartels, Tina (Dustin) Bunn, Tony Suckow, Travis Suckow, Jacob Swearingen and Aaron Swearingen;
Sister: Carol (Pete) Miller of Townsend, Tennessee;
Sister-In-Law & Brother-In-Law: Carol (Verner) Jaschen of Denver, Iowa;
Sister-In-Law: Ruth Bergstrom of Waterloo and
Several Nieces & Nephews.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Arlan Bergstrom and a grandson: Adam Bartels.
