Dallas "Tex" Parkinson, 82, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Friday morning, August 1, 2014, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein. Funeral service: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, rural Oelwein with Pastor Elissa Dodge officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the Floral Hills Funeral Home, rural Oelwein. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, Iowa. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Dallas Conrad Arthur Parkinson was born on January 23, 1932 in Edgewood, Iowa the son of Arthur Samuel & Viola Mae (Rizer) Parkinson. He was raised on a farm near Maynard and farming stayed dear to his heart throughout his life. Dallas graduated from Maynard High School in the class of 1952. He was united in marriage to Agnes Arletha Price on March 3, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn. Dallas farmed near Maynard and then ran a Cockshutt Tractor Implement dealership in Maynard. He then worked the wheat harvest throughout the central region of the country. Dallas worked several other jobs including John Deere in Waterloo, Spahn & Rose Lumber in Readlyn, Shields and Bantam in Waverly and then at Kay Manufacturing in Janesville, operating a brake press for 29 1/2 years, retiring on January 23, 1995. After retirement, Dallas worked at the Oelwein City Parks. He had lived at Oelwein Health Care Center since January of 2009. Dallas had formerly been a member of the Fairbank United Methodist Church. Dallas enjoyed biking, playing cards, cutting wood, watching sports and helping others. Dallas is survived by his Wife: Agnes Parkinson of Oelwein; 2 Sons: Wyatt (Karen) Parkinson of Independence & Samuel Parkinson of Oelwein; Daughter: Teresa Ryherd of Oelwein; 2 Grandchildren: Tina (Carl) Dodge of Winthrop & Dr. Lisa Ryherd of Wayne, Nebraska; Great Granddaughter: Kaylee Dodge of Winthrop and A Great Grandchild due in January; Brother: Delbert (Gwen) Parkinson of Phillips, Wisconsin; 3 Sisters: Eunice Taylor of Marion; Ardith Culbertson of Grundy Center, Melody (Dennis) Wilbur of Olathe, Kansas; Favorite Great Aunt: Hazel Rizer of Edgewood; Many additional Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces & Nephews and Former Son-In-Law: Dennis Ryherd of Fairbank. Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters: Anita Mae Parkinson as a child, Joyce Whitney, Shirley Doughty, Mardelle Meridith and DeLinda Sargent.
