Winthrop, Iowa
Dale William Trott was born October 15, 1923 on the family farm four and one half miles northeast of Winthrop in Fremont Township, the son of Harry J. and Blanche B. Thompson Trott. He attended Fremont Center Country School and graduated from Winthrop High School with the class of 1942. He farmed with his father until 1944 when he got married.
Dale was united in marriage to Frances J. Brubaker on November 19, 1944 at the Winthrop Methodist Church. To this union were born four children: Steven, Neil, Drew, and Gretchen. Dale and Fran began married life on the farm home - the same house in which he was born, and they resided there for sixty three years.
Dale commuted to work for 23 years at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works while continuing to run the farm. He prided himself on the fact he was only late for work one time in all those years and that was because of a blizzard.
Dale was a faithful member of the Church of Christ United, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star, The Shrine, and the Good Sam Camping Club. Camping and traveling were his favorite activities with driving the motorhome to Alaska (a long hoped for trip), which was their first trip after his retirement.
Dale entered into his eternal rest on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester following a short illness at the age of 85.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Josephine Wilson, and one niece Judy Lynn.
Survivors include his wife Fran of Independence; his three sons: Steven (Marcia) Trott of Seattle, WA; Neil (Joyce) Trott of Iowa City; and Drew (Jane) Trott of Winthrop; his daughter Gretchen (La Vern) Vauble of Iowa City; three grandsons: Eric, Bryan and Jason; one granddaughter Leah; five great grandsons: Sam, Cary, Nolan, Justin, and Dylan; two great granddaughters: Alexandria and Hayden; other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
