Clair W. Reid, 89, of Westgate, Iowa died Tuesday morning, November 12, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, Iowa. Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Westgate, Iowa with Rev. Herbert C. Mueller III officiating. Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the church. Inurnment: St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate, Iowa with military honors by the Messerer-Fox American Legion Post # 245 of Westgate, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established in his name. Clair Wagner Reid was born February 3, 1924 in Mt. Vernon Township (Waterloo), Iowa the son of William and Elizabeth (Wagner) Reid. He graduated from Orange Township High School (Waterloo). Clair proudly served in the United States Army from September 19, 1945 to December 28, 1946. On September 29, 1948, he was united in marriage to Garnet Mae Nauholz at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate, Iowa. Clair was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Clair is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Thomas) Glumac of Davenport, Florida, Patricia (Robert) McSweeny of Maynard, Iowa and Denise (Stuart) Sliter of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin; 6 grandchildren, Reid Lander, Alicia Lander, Sarah McSweeny, Lucas McSweeny, Lynn (Jason) Demaray and Erin (Patrick) Beidle; 2 great grandchildren, McKenna and Cashton Demaray; sisters-in-law, Alyce Reid of Waterloo, Iowa and; Margaret Johns (Pat Patterson) of North Highlands California; brother-in-law, Don (Shirley) Nauholz of Westgate, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Garnet on October 30, 2013; daughter, Connie; 2 brothers, Robert Reid and Maurice Reid; brother-in-law, Carl Nauholz and sister-in-law, Margie Nauholz; and brother-in-law, Roy Johns.
