Carolyn G. Bowers, 92, of Sioux City, Iowa and formerly of Oelwein, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, June 21, 2023, at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 26, 2023, at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein with Rev. Rick Johnson and Rev. Nick Burgus officiating. Visitation: 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Monday at the church. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein is assisting the family. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Carolyn Gerene Reed was born December 5, 1930, at Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Fleenor) Reed. She graduated from Clarinda High School. On July 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Paul E. Bowers at Omaha, Nebraska. In 1956, Carolyn and Paul moved to Oelwein. Carolyn was employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Carolyn loved to cook for her family, camping, travel, and spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carolyn loved the holidays, and their home reflected it by the decorations, especially at Christmas. Carolyn is survived by her three children: Steven (Shari) Bowers of Waterloo, Susan (Ron) Didier of Le Mars and David (Kathy) Bowers of Mingo; 8 grandchildren: Dr. Thomas (Michelle) Didier, Kathy (Patrick) Vigneron, Ryan (Anna) Bowers, Elizabeth (Nick) Burgus, Krista (Jeremiah) Keltner, Dr. Amy Bowers (Dr. Dalton), Shawn (Jaclyn Resh) Bowers and Spencer Bowers; 17 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister: Rose Blok of Marion; sister-in-law: Mary (John) Hixson of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul on May 13, 2019; sister: Myrtle Luther; brothers-in-law: Calvin Luther, Kenny Bowers and Harold Bragg; and two sisters-in-law: Darlene Bowers and Delores Bragg. Carolyn's family would like to thank Mary and those who helped take care of mom at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City. You went above and beyond with the love and attention you gave her.
