Carl "Dudy" Ryan Jr. Obituary (1928

Carl "Dudy" Ryan Jr. was born September 10, 1928, at Independence, Iowa, the son of Carl Ryan Sr. and Charlotte Marie Gaffney Ryan. He grew up in Winthrop, Iowa, attending school at Winthrop Consolidated School. Dudy was united in marriage to Marjorie Solem on June 30, 1956 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Winthrop. They lived in town where they raised their family. Dudy worked at many jobs including the survey crew for Buchanan County, as well as, working at gas stations. In 1966, Dudy bought the Texaco Service Station and with his family's help, ran a full service gas, vehicle repair, and wrecker service. Semi-retiring in 1980, he continued to do oil changes and sell tires in his home garage. He thoroughly loved his grandchildren and was the happiest giving them rides in his creatively built cars pulled by his lawn tractor. At the age of 84 years, Dudy entered into his eternal rest on Monday, February 18, 2013, at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center in Independence, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Dale; his brothers: Glen, Larry, and James; and sisters: Phyllis Fangman and Mary Gifford. Surviving him is his wife of 67 years, Marjorie; his daughters: Deanna (Jerry) Naber of Winthrop and Donna (Steve) Buchanan of Charles City; his son, Dan Ryan of Winthrop; six grandchildren: Jeremy Ryan, Michael Naber, Stevonna (Mike) Blair, Ryan Buchanan, Connor Ryan, and Nicole Ryan; his sister, Shirley Tinker of Sun Prairie, WI; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 21, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Winthrop with Father Donald J. Plamondon officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Kremer and St. Patrick's Choir. Lector will be his grandson, Ryan Buchanan and the Offertory Procession will be his other grandchildren. Casketbearers will be: Jim Dolan, Jim Burns, Jim Peterson, Jim Loughren, Jim Bateman, and Jim Brace. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Winthrop. Friends may call from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2013, with a scripture service at 8 P.M., and on Thursday until 10 A.M. at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop.
