He graduated from Oelwein High School in the Class of 1947. Burl was united in marriage to Geneva May (Gray) Tyler on May 23, 1972 in Decorah, Iowa. Burl was a semi-truck driver, construction worker and had also worked at John Deere Co. Burl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oelwein and the Maynard American Legion. Burl is survived by his Sister: Edith Miller of Oelwein; 3 Step-Sons: Leslie (Judy) Tyler of Randalia, Gerald (Shirley) Tyler of Seabrook, South Carolina & Donald (Mary) Tyler of Maynard; Step-Daughter: Barbara Jensen of Randalia; Daughter-In-Law: Bonnie Doty of Oelwein; Step-Daughter-In-Law: Nancy Tyler of Maynard; Many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren & Great Great Grandchildren. Burl was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Geneva on June 19, 2002, son: Jim Doty, 2 brothers: Noel Doty in infancy & Clifford Doty, 2 sisters: Iona Reice & Ila Garrison; step-son: Raymond Tyler and 2 grandsons: Nathaniel Doty & Ben Huston.
