Berneice Delores Lehniger Obituary (1920

Berneice D. Lehniger, 90, of Hazleton, Iowa, died on Friday afternoon, November 11, 2011 at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with Rev. Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Visitation: 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the church. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established for Zion Lutheran Church. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Berneice Delores Arp was born on December 24, 1920 at Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Edward & Bertha (Nessler) Arp. She moved with her family to Maynard in 1921 where she received her education, graduating from Maynard High School in the Class of 1938. Berneice was united in marriage to Roy Paul Lehniger on April 8, 1943 at Maynard, Iowa. Berneice and Roy farmed in the Maynard area until 1960 and then they moved to Hazleton. In 1970 they moved to Okoboji, Iowa for a couple of years and then returned to Hazleton. Berneice was a self employed interior decorator for Hazleton Lumber Co. in Hazleton and also worked at Oelwein Landscaping in Oelwein for 19 years, retiring in 1997. Berneice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein where she had previously served as Altar Guild Treasurer, deacon and as an usher. She was also a member of W.E.L.C.A. and the quilting ladies of Zion Lutheran Church. Berneice was a life member of Beta Omega Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and was a past Heart of Iowa Hospice volunteer. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and bowling. Berneice is survived by her many Nieces & Nephews. Berneice was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Roy on August 2, 1978, 4 brothers: Fred, William, Edward and Harry and 7 sisters: Evelyn B. Quinn, Helen Vargason, Bessie Steffen, Dorothy Arp, Katherine Arp, Gladys Bigelow and Betty Jean Christensen.
