B. A. "Pete" Goldenstein, 90, of Independence, Iowa died on Thursday morning, May 24, 2012 at his son's home in rural Aurora, Iowa Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa; Officiating: Rev. Leo Combs-Lay and Rev. William Thalacker; Visitation: from 9:30 A.M. to service time on Saturday at the church; Interment: Union Cemetery, Putnam Township, rural Aurora, Iowa Memorials may be given in his name to E.L.C.A. World Hunger of Chicago, Illinois or to your local congregation. Bernard Amos Goldenstein was born on September 29, 1921 at Golden, Illinois, the son of Ehme and Sarah (Albers) Goldenstein. He graduated from LaPrie High School at Golden, Illinois. Pete married Emma Katherine Klein on May 30, 1943 at Golden, Illinois. They were divorced in 1972. Pete farmed over 50 years in the Independence area. He was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Independence, Iowa where he was a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years and served in various positions on the church council. He later became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa. He was also a member of various farm organizations. Pete is survived by 2 Sons, Mark Goldenstein of Elburn, Illinois and Steve (Ruth) Goldenstein of Aurora, Iowa; Daughter, Rebecca (Joe) Patrick of Mundelein, Illinois; 6 Grandchildren, Matt Goldenstein, Mike Goldenstein, Joshua Patrick, Rachael McOmber, Meghan Goldenstein and Chris Goldenstein; 6 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Norma Jean Taylor of Columbus, Ohio; 4 Nieces; and 6 Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Brother, Eldon Goldenstein; and 3 Sisters, Agnes Geissler, Esther Sanders and Ellen Jones.
