Albert "Al" Ullrich Jr., 70, of Shellsburg, Iowa, died Sunday morning, November 14, 2021, at his home. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, November 18, 2021, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating. Visitation: 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 17, 2021, and for one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Hazleton, Iowa. Albert Russel Joseph Ullrich, Jr. was born April 8, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Albert Russel and Mary (Clark) Ullrich. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Al proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. On February 10, 1973, he was united in marriage to Arlene Elizabeth Michels in Cedar Rapids. Al enjoyed woodworking, fishing and candle making. Al is survived by his wife: Arlene Ullrich of Shellsburg; daughter: Brynja Ullrich (Tim Browning) of Baldwin City, Kansas; son: Conrad (Michelle) Ullrich of Mechanicsville; in-laws: Diana (Charles) Smith of Oelwein, Joyce (Tom) DeSotel of Newhall, Julie (Arne) Dettbarn of Stanley and Ronald (Mary Jane) Michels of Decorah; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Mary Ullrich; parents-in-law: Robert and Mildred Michels; and uncles: James Ullrich and Richard Ullrich.
